What is the history of the property?
Was built by Messire de Brunville during Century XVIIth. He named it in honor of his mother, the Luxembourg Duchess (Belgian province). Firstly used as a private mansion and as an annexe of the public hospital, it has been turned into a hotel from the XVIIIth century. The hotel has welcomed many historic celebrities, such as Louis XVI, Mademoiselle George (who was a famous tragedian born in Bayeux and also known for being one of the mistresses of Napoleon Bonaparte); Gustave Flaubert who wrote his last novel "Bouvard and Pecuchet" in this venue; and many others. It was also the heardquaters of SS officers during the World War II.
